We have 15 leather dog leashes in four builds: the Plain leash with a flat strap, the Imperial leash with a waxed strap, the braided Twisted leash and the hands-free nubuck leash. All are made from cowhide, with brass hardware. Below you will find how to choose one by the collar, what lengths there are and how to care for it.

How to choose a leather leash for your dog

You choose a leash by the size letter of the collar. Measure the neck where the collar sits, find the number in the collar's size table, and the letter also tells you which leash to take. The steps and tables are in the size guide.

  • Standard: a 2 cm strap, for collars S–XXL. The Plain leashes, the Imperial leash and the hands-free nubuck leash are Standard.
  • Small: a 1.5 cm strap and lighter hardware, for collars XXS–XS. In Plain it comes in Sand and Dark Moss.
  • Twisted: a round 1.5 cm profile. The Standard version fits collars M–XXL, the Small version fits collars XS–S.

Length and how you carry it

The Plain, Imperial and Twisted leashes adjust to three lengths: move the snap hook from one ring to another to go from 160 cm, when you want your dog close, to 200 or 230 cm, when he has room to run. The hands-free nubuck leash is 2.5 m in total, with two fixed settings at 1.2 and 1.6 m for walking at heel. You wear it over the shoulder or around the hips, with both hands free.

Leather, brass and care

The Plain, Twisted and nubuck leashes are made of through-dyed leather, which forgives signs of wear. The snap hooks and D rings are brass. Florence, from the Imperial collection, is waxed leather that develops a marbled look over time. The nubuck is waterproofed all the way through, so the hands-free leash works for walks in the rain.

Wipe the Plain, Imperial and Twisted leashes with a slightly damp cloth, then a dry one, and give them leather balm from time to time. Keep them away from excess moisture and from swimming. Let nubuck dry in the air. The Plain leashes come in Dark Moss, Earth, Chili, Amber, Sky, Lavender, Sand and Noir, and match our collars and harnesses.
