Protection before the walk

The paw pads come into direct contact with everything your dog walks on: scorching asphalt in summer, snow and road salt in winter, gravel, branches, sand. This balm goes on before exposure, not after. The blend of plant waxes forms a film on the pads, between the skin and the surface underfoot.

When you use it

Before long walks, hikes, running on rough ground, or outings in scorching heat and hard frost. It isn't a compulsory everyday product. It makes sense in exactly the situations where you know the paw is going to take a beating. If the pads are already dry or rough, a moisturising paw balm is the right choice for recovery; PawTection is for the step before.

What's in it

Plant waxes (candelilla, carnauba, sunflower) for the film, mango butter and rice bran oil for moisture, lavender essential oil and rosemary extract as a natural antioxidant that keeps the formula stable.

Formats

Three formats, the same formula: the 30 ml tin for applying with your fingers, the 59 ml retractable stick for applying directly without getting your hands messy, and the 4.5 ml travel stick for your pocket.

Star ingredients

Mango butter: rich in vitamins A, C and E. Moisturises the skin of the pads and helps it stay supple.
Rice bran oil: a natural antioxidant, with minerals and vitamins. It absorbs easily and nourishes the skin.
Lavender essential oil: gives the balm its discreet lavender scent.
Rosemary extract: a natural preservative and antioxidant that keeps the formula stable.

How to serve it

Distract, apply, reward
1. Get a distraction ready. A few training treats or their favourite toy, it helps if they aren't used to having a paw held.
2. Clean the area. Remove soil or debris from the pads.
3. Apply. With your fingertips or with a cloth that doesn't absorb the balm, spread a generous layer straight onto the paw pads. With the 59 ml stick you apply straight onto the skin, without touching the balm with your hand.
4. Let it dry. The paws stay slippery right after applying, so keep them busy for a minute (a belly scratch helps).
5. Reward. A treat or a bit of play, so they associate the application with something good.
Apply any time before going outside or before exposing the paws to a difficult surface.
